Law interns in Pivot's legal office.
Do cutting edge strategic legal
work under the supervision of staff lawyers
Pivot Legal Society is currently welcoming
applications for interns for Autumn 2008. Please consider applying for the legal internship placements for the Summer of 2009 next January.
Candidates must, at minimum, have completed
at least one year of legal education, have excellent
written and spoken communication skills, and show a
demonstrated commitment to social justice issues.
Lawyers and law school graduates who have
not been called to the bar are also invited to apply.
Potential interns should be familiar with
Pivot Legal Society and Pivot’s work through reviewing
our website and publications.
Interns in the past have worked on Pivot’s
various legal campaigns and have done work that includes:
• housing, sex-work and policing
affidavit programs;
• drafting policy documents and
popular legal education handbooks;
• reviewing legislation and other
government documents to provide recommendations for
improvement or revision;
|
|
•
researching key criminal, administrative and civil litigation
issues for staff lawyers;
• reviewing evidence/documentation
for strategic legal actions and recommending approaches
to staff lawyers;
• designing and holding workshops
for community members and groups on legal issues of
interest.
Experience that makes a difference
Like all Pivot’s internship positions,
the legal interships are entirely voluntary. Some interns
in the past have been successful in obtaining funding
from their law schools, government agencies, and/or
local bar associations/law societies.
How to get started and deadlines
Send your resume to mmontaner[at]pivotlegal.com along with a covering letter that outlines how
you fulfill the requirements of the position and when
you are available, along with your proposed
start and end dates.
Pivot will only contact candidates who
have been selected for interviews.
Pivot is continually accepting applications
for internship positions. The number of positions available
depends on available resources for the time period when
the candidate is available; the more advance notice
you can give of your availability, the more likely it
will be that Pivot has a place available for you.
